About Boss on a Budget
I created Boss on a Budget® in 2016 to combine two loves: teaching and community. Struck by the lack of a strong nonprofit network in my hometown, I wanted to create a grassroots effort to build the capacity of local nonprofits. I’ve grown tired of seeing deserving nonprofits struggle to scale their programs in a meaningful way, so Boss on a Budget was created to bridge the gap. Since then, I’ve built an online community of over 30,000 people across the world who use my products and teaching to launch their nonprofit dreams. My hope is that every new nonprofit founder has the knowledge they need to launch.
My background
I am an award-winning social worker who has worked in the child welfare field over the past 16 years. I started my career as a researcher, where I evaluated programs to identify the important elements of successful and proven programs. Since then, I’ve worked in a variety of different arenas which include local government and philanthropy.
I have substantive knowledge in nonprofit startup, startup fundraising, kinship care policy and practice, and child welfare services. My career has led me to learn a variety of skills and competencies that include:
Meeting and group facilitation
Technical assistance & training
Strategic planning
Philanthropic advising
Outcomes development
Qualitative and quantitative research
Survey development and analysis
Focus group facilitation and interviewing
Public agency reform
The combination of those skills have given me the perspective needed to understand how to create strong and effective programs, particularly in the social services sector.
